Makes: 12 Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup soft butter

  • 3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 1 tablespoon almond extract

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour

  • 3 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • Maraschino cherries (one for each cookie)

  • 1 bag of chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Prepare Dough:

    • In a large mixing bowl, cream the soft butter until smooth.

    • Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until well combined.

    • Stir in the vanilla extract and almond extract.

    • Add the sifted flour, maraschino cherry juice, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.

  3. Shape Cookies:

    • Take a level teaspoon of dough and flatten it slightly in your hand.

    • Place one maraschino cherry in the center and wrap the dough around it, forming a ball.

    • Place the dough balls on an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart.

  4. Bake:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until the cookies are set but not browned.

    • Remove from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.

  5. Prepare Chocolate Coating:

    • While the cookies are cooling, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in short bursts of 20-30 seconds, stirring in between until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.

  6. Dip Cookies:

    • Once the cookies are completely cooled, dip the top of each cookie into the melted chocolate.

    • Place the cookies back on the wire rack or a sheet of parchment paper to allow the chocolate to set.

  7. Finish with Cherries:

    • Optionally, you can place a small piece of maraschino cherry on top of each cookie before the chocolate sets completely for an extra touch.

  8. Cool and Serve:

    • Allow the chocolate to cool and harden completely before serving.

Enjoy your delicious bon bon cookies!
