Makes: 12 Cookies
Ingredients:
1/2 cup soft butter
3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon almond extract
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
3 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
1/8 teaspoon salt
Maraschino cherries (one for each cookie)
1 bag of chocolate chips
Directions:
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, cream the soft butter until smooth.
Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until well combined.
Stir in the vanilla extract and almond extract.
Add the sifted flour, maraschino cherry juice, and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Shape Cookies:
Take a level teaspoon of dough and flatten it slightly in your hand.
Place one maraschino cherry in the center and wrap the dough around it, forming a ball.
Place the dough balls on an ungreased baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, or until the cookies are set but not browned.
Remove from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
Prepare Chocolate Coating:
While the cookies are cooling, melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in short bursts of 20-30 seconds, stirring in between until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
Dip Cookies:
Once the cookies are completely cooled, dip the top of each cookie into the melted chocolate.
Place the cookies back on the wire rack or a sheet of parchment paper to allow the chocolate to set.
Finish with Cherries:
Optionally, you can place a small piece of maraschino cherry on top of each cookie before the chocolate sets completely for an extra touch.
Cool and Serve:
Allow the chocolate to cool and harden completely before serving.
Enjoy your delicious bon bon cookies!
