5 reasons why you should make a retro DIY pour spout

1. Cost-effective: One of the most significant advantages of DIY pour spouts for mason jars is the cost. Compared to purchasing ready-made pour spouts, making your own is often a cheaper alternative. It allows you to save money while still enjoying the convenience of a pour spout.
2. Customizability: DIY pour spouts offer the opportunity to personalize and customize your mason jars according to your taste and needs. You can experiment with different materials, colors, and designs to match your kitchen decor or create a unique style.
3. Easily replaceable: Since DIY pour spouts are typically made from simple materials, replacing them is relatively easy. If your spout gets worn out or damaged, you can quickly and inexpensively create a new one. This flexibility eliminates the need to search for specific replacement parts, which can be both time-consuming and costly.
4. Versatile use: Homemade pour spouts can be used not only on mason jars but also on various other containers like bottles or cans. This versatility allows you to repurpose existing items, reducing waste and expanding their functionality.
5. Sustainable choice: Making your own pour spouts aligns with sustainable living principles by promoting reuse and reducing plastic waste. Using mason jars as pourable containers with DIY spouts reduces the need for disposable items like single-use plastic bottles or containers, contributing to a greener lifestyle.

DIRECTIONS DIY MASON JAR POUR SPOUT

what you’ll need

  • mason Jar with lid and ring

  • carton with a pour spout

  • marker

  • scissors

Instructions

  1. rinse your carton

  2. then take apart the top of the carton and flatten (as pictured above)

  3. Separate the mason jar lid from the outside ring

  4. place the ring over the spout using a marker or bright colored pen

  5. draw a circle around the inside circumference of the ring

  6. cut the circle out, then place the spout in the ring in place of the lid

Notes:

  1. You can use the lid to cut the circle I use the ring, it’s easier to see when you’re making the circle.

  2. If your circle is a little big you can always cut it down, but if it’s too small, well hopefully you have another carton.

  3. When creating DIY pour spouts, it's crucial to ensure that the materials used are food-safe and suitable for contact with liquids.

  4. DIY pour spouts may not provide the same precision and tight seal as manufactured ones. This can result in occasional leakage or spills, especially if the pour spout is not fitted securely or made properly. It's essential to carefully test and adjust the spout to minimize issues.
