I was delighted to discover this recipe when I joined a vintage recipe group, and I'm so glad I did—it's refreshing and not overly sweet!

Sunkist growers started in 1908 and are now one of the largest citrus producers in the world. by 1926 fresh oranges stamped with the Sunkist logo begin to appear in supermarkets.

Why should I try making fresh orange juice?

Fresh orange juice is a delicious and nutritious drink that can provide you with a range of health benefits and with this recipe you control how much sugar you add.

Make a Fresh orange juice mocktail just add a splash of club soda and serve on the rocks.

Shopping List:

4-5 fresh oranges

1 fresh lemon

granulated sugar

water

NOTES:

This is my interpretation of the original recipe with no changes. I’ve included the original below.

You will need a small pan and a metal strainer to make the simple syrup.

I also strained the fresh orange juice and lemon juice. No pulp just how I like it.

If you only have small oranges, you will probably need more like 6 oranges to make the fresh orange juice.

Having a couple extra oranges on hand won’t hurt because you might want more of an orange flavor.

2 Pints is equal to 4 Cups which was my math ha-ha therefore 4 Cups of total water.

Lastly, serve over ice, garnish with orange slices.

Ingredients:

  • juice of 4 Sunkist Oranges

  • Rind of 1 Sunkist Orange

  • Juice of 1 Sunkist Lemon

  • 1/3 Cup Sugar

  • 2 Pints Water

Directions:

  1. Combine the rind of one orange, 1 Cup water and 1/3 Cup sugar in a small pan.

  2. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and set aside to cool. (this is simple syrup)

  3. In a large pitcher, combine 3 Cups of water, juice of 4 oranges, juice of one lemon.

  4. Strain the orange rind from simple syrup, then add simple syrup to the pitcher and stir.

  5. Serve over ice, Enjoy!
